Adaptrum supplies TV whitespace solution to UK Cambridge TV White Spaces trial
Adaptrum demonstrated its unlicensed TV whitespace radio system at the Cambridge TV Whitespace Trial launch event in Cambridge, United Kingdom, on June 29th, 2011 . In the demonstration, the Adaptrum whitespace system provided the broadband IP connectivity allowing a client-side Microsoft XBOX to stream live HD videos from the Internet. Also as part of the demo, a live XBOX/Kinect video chat was established between two XBOX/Kinect units connected through the same TV whitespace connection. These applications were demonstrated under a highly challenging radio propagation environment with more than 120 dB link loss through buildings, foliage, walls, furniture, people etc. and with severe multipath effects.

Adaptrum Demonstrates TVBD Prototype at 2011 NAB Convention with Microsoft

Adaptrum demonstrated at Microsoft’s show booth a wireless platform it has developed, which delivers high-bandwidth broadband speeds while also meeting the FCC’s strict interference protection requirements. Microsoft Research also demonstrated its prototype white spaces database, which dynamically controls unlicensed device access to TV band spectrum. (
Press release)
“Microsoft is pleased that Adaptrum has agreed to demonstrate its white spaces technologies at the NAB Show. Mobile data usage is exploding and the need for additional wireless broadband capacity will only continue to grow. As Microsoft, Adaptrum, and other parties demonstrated in the FCC’s TV white spaces proceeding, greater use of dynamic spectrum access technologies will enable consumers to make more productive use of limited spectrum resources. The TV band white spaces provide a golden opportunity for industry to demonstrate the benefits of devices that can adaptively operate on different spectrum bands and protect primary users from harmful interference.” -- Paul Garnett, Director for Interoperability & Standards at Microsoft.

Adaptrum Demonstrates TVBD Prototypes at FCC
Adaptrum was the first company to demonstrate at FCC a prototype TVBD that actually complies with the rules adopted in September 2010. The transmitted waveform complied with all the requirements of the new rules. (Due to the lack of an operational database, the database interaction could not be demonstrated at this time.)

FCC Frees Up Vacant TV Airwaves for "Super Wi-Fi" Technologies and Other Technologies
FCC has now finalized rules for access to TV White Space, the focus of Adaptrum's research. Removing ambiguities and appeals from its 2008 decision, FCC has now cleared the way for operational use of Adaptrum's technology for public benefit.
